Learn how to keep your Sterling Silver Jewelry beautiful for a lifetime!
When silver is exposed to air, it sometimes tarnishes and loses luster. This is a result of oxidation of the metal. Fortunately, by following a few guidelines, caring for your silver is simple and will add to its beauty.
1) Before each wearing, polish your silver with a Silver Cleaning Cloth. Cleaning cloths are specially treated with a jewelry polish, which will remove light tarnish and will not scratch your jewelry. For heavier tarnish, use commercially available silver polishes designated safe for jewelry. But be careful with gemstones…do not submerge pieces with stones in a polish or dip. Clean around them.
2) Store your silver in an airtight compartment or plastic bag to minimize tarnishing.
3) Put your jewelry on last. Exposing your jewelry to perfume, hair spray and hand cream can cause spots. In addition, jewelry should be removed before cleaning, swimming, showering, dishwashing and kept away from bleaches, alcohols and cleansers.
4) For safety reasons and to minimize scratching and tearing, jewelry should be removed when engaging in heavy cleaning, yard work or sports activities.
Be especially careful with pieces of jewellery containing pearls as these can easily loose their lustre with chemicals and even perfumes

I’ve heard that keeping a piece of chalk in the plastic bag with your silver also helps prevent tarnishing.
